President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and LUKoil chief Vagit Alekperov discussed today at a meeting held in Alma-Ata the progress of joint project implementation, including the projects on the Caspian shelf, LUKoil's press service reported. The Kazakh leader and the LUKoil chief also discussed the issues of expanding the oil giant's activities in Kazakhstan both at existing deposits and on perspective areas.
In 2003 Kazakhstan is planning to hold a tender for the exploration and production of oil deposits in the Caspian sector. LUKoil is expected to participate in the tender. The parties also discussed the project of creating a joint venture with KazMunaiGaz to participate in the exploration of the Caspian shelf. LUKoil is currently involved in three Kazakh oil and gas projects: the Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kumkol projects.
