UAZ Car Factory Made Net Profit in 2002 for First Time in Years

UAZ car factory produced 69,599 cars in 2002, a decrease of 2.1% year-on-year. As the company press office told a Rosbalt correspondent, 33,648 off-road cars, 6,186 commercial buses, 18,898 buses and 10,748 specialized vehicles were produced in 2002.

None the less, the press office pointed out that the company recorded a net profit in 2002 for the first time in several years, although the exact amount of profit is not yet certain. In 2002 the company's sales proceeds totaled USD 265.5 million, an increase of 7.6% year-on-year. 8,900 cars were exported, an increase of 48.3% year-on-year. In 2003 the company is planning to increase the number of exported vehicles to 14,500.

Ulyanovsk Car Factory was founded in 1941 and is currently producing 14 different models of off-road and four-wheel drive minibuses. The company is owned by Severstal-Auto (Severstal-Group holding).
