The Khabarovsk territory is getting ready to meet Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi who will make a short stop in this Russian region in the Far East on his way from Moscow.
During a press conference, territorial governor Victor Ishayev said that the local administration had already informed the Japanese side about several proposals for the future economic cooperation. In particular, those proposals include the mutual exploration of oil deposits on Sakhalin, the construction of energy supply conduit between Sakhalin and the Japanese island of Hokkaido, and also the construction of an oil pipeline between the town of Angarsk in Siberia and Nakhodka sea port.
According to the governor, the representatives of Japanese business circles are interested in joint projects involving lumber processing in Khabarovsk region, exploration of bio-resources, participation in the construction of a gas pipeline between Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Khabarovsk, which has already started, and also in a possibility of investing in a construction of a modern oncology center in Khabarovsk.
"Our goal," said Victor Ishayev, "is to show the Japanese Prime Minister the Khabarovsk territory and its capabilities, to convince him that Japan not only could but should cooperate with us."
