GAZ automobile producer to stop assembly line

The GAZ automobile producer will stop its car production beginning December 23, 2002, until the end of January 2003. This will take place due to overproduction of GAZ cars. According to General Director of the plant Alexey Barantsev, another reason for stopping production is a deficit of parts the company receives from the AvtoVAZ carmaker and the Izhmash-Avto car producer.

The plant has already fulfilled its 2002 plan for car production. During the stop of the assembly line, it is planned to replace some equipment and to start preparing for the restyling of some of GAZ car models.

GAZ is also planning to stop truck production for preparing for the production of its restyled minibuses from the end of December 2002 until January 10, 2002.
