Old household goods were found during restoration works in Stroganovsky Palace

During a clean up of the cellars and attics in the Stroganovsky Palace (built in the 50's of the 18th century according to Francesco Rastrelli's project) on Nevski Avenue, the workers found old household goods that belonged to Stroganov family. Among the items are - children's shoes, a sword, a bed and other household goods, a plaster cast figure of a lion, which had decorated a mantelpiece in one of the palace's halls, according to a painting exhibited in the State Historical Museum. After lifting the parquet floor in the dancing hall, laid in Soviet times, the workers discovered a piece of parquet made by Francesco Rastrelli from 10 different types of wood. Using the piece, specialists reconstructed the picture of the entire floor. The interior of the dancing hall in the Stroganovsky Palace is the only preserved sample of Rastrelli's work in St. Petersburg.
