Russian Minister for Chechnya Stanislav Ilyasov said at his Friday meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow that more then 300 thousand people had returned to Chechnya in the last two years and a half. Issues concerning normalization of the situation in the Chechen Republic were discussed at the meeting.
According to Mr. Ilyasov, at present about 120 thousand jobs have been created in Chechnya, hospitals and schools were repaired, transportation and agricultural systems were restored as well. Meanwhile, the Chechen Republic was all ruins two years ago and nobody worked there, Stanislav Ilyasov stressed.
The U.S. Ambassador to Russia was interested in the forthcoming referendum on the Chechen constitution and in the forthcoming elections to local bodies. According to the U.S. diplomat, the USA being a friend of Russia is concerned over stability in the Chechen Republic to make partnership between the countries even closer.
