Russian freight ship in ice captivity in Bering Sea

A Russian freight ship on its way to Chukotka Peninsula (Russia's Far East) with a cargo of fuel and foodstuffs on board got into ice captivity in the Bering Sea Friday. According to the information of the local emergencies department, the pontoon stuck some 90 miles from the eastern coast of the peninsula. The ship has a crew of 6 persons.

Coast services are trying to rescue the ship from ice captivity. Two rescue ships were sent to help the vessel out, but they failed to break through the ice. A more powerful vessel has been forwarded to the incident site.
