Aeroflot to discuss restructuring of its foreign-produced fleet

The board of directors of Aeroflot Airlines is planning to discuss the restructuring of its aircraft fleet, produced abroad, on November 26, 2002, the company reported to RBC.

Within the restructuring, Aeroflot is planning to lease 27 new foreign planes instead of the 27 currently used ones. According to various estimates, the sum of the deal is about $600m.

It is worth mentioning that on November 18, 2002, Aeroflot and the Airbus aircraft producer signed a contract on supplying eight A320 aircraft to the Russian company. The first A319 plane will be delivered to Aeroflot in fall 2003. These jets will be operating on European flights of the Russian airline. Another four planes will be supplied to Aeroflot within the framework of another order. Aeroflot will lease six jets more from GECAS (General Electric's division). On the whole, the Russian air company will purchase 18 planes from Airbus.
