Russia's Ethnic Affairs Minister Vladimir Zorin said Russia needed immigrants but not to the prejudice of the country's economy and security. On Wednesday he spoke at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Migration Policy Committee. The government has a double task to protect immigrants' rights, ensuring humanitarian attitude to them on the one hand and on the other hand to secure the country's safety, according to Zorin. "It is also necessary to protect the permanent population's rights, especially in the labour area and at the same time to secure immigrants' rights so that they do not become an easy prey to criminality and unfair entrepreneurs," Vladimir Zorin stated.
The Minister pointed out that it was necessary to make amendments to 20 normative acts of the Russian legislation in order to secure all these measures. At the same time a legal basis in this sphere already exists as laws on foreigners' legal status and on citizenship have already been passed.
During the committee meeting Zorin said that it was also necessary to bring changes to the migration legislation, taking into account all details.
