Members of a "congress of people's patriotic forces of Siberia", organised by Communists in Krasnoyarsk, voted on Tuesday, as expected, for Sergei Glazyev, deputy of the State Duma (lower house of parliament), as a candidate for gubernatorial elections in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Well-known economist Glazyev, to judge from the results of the latest public opinion poll, ranks 4-5 among 15 challengers to the post of governor of this large Siberian region. Elections are scheduled for September 8.
Sergei Glazyev was one of the speakers at the forum arranged by the Communists. Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov attended the congress.
Forum delegates also decided to press for an all-Russian referendum before the end of this year and approved the wording of the only question to be asked at it: "Do you agree that revenues from the exploitation of natural resources should be used in the interests of the whole of society?"
