Number of cellular service subscribers surge in Russian regions

The number of cellular service subscribers surged 30 percent in Russia inthe first quarter of 2002, the J'son & Partners consulting agency reported.A significant contribution to this rise was made by regional cellularcompanies, which are not among the three leading Russian GSM operators.This was the first time when the structure of the Russian cellular marketchanged in favor of Russian regions (56 percent). The largest cellularcompany, after federal providers Mobile TeleSystems, VimpelCom and MegaFon,is still SMARTS (Samara). The number of its clients is expected to surpass400,000 in the near future..
