Algeria: 155,000 at risk of starving

Sauaui refugees in precarious situation

155,000 Saraui refugees from Western Sahara, based in refugee camps in Algeria, are at risk of starvation unless urgent aid reaches them within the next month, according to UN sources.

The refugees are in four camps along the border between Algeria and Western Sahara. It is estimated that in October, only 11% of the daily food ration will be distributed to them due to a severe lack of food stocks, which are already reaching rupture point.

The UNO has asked the international community to help.
