The trade turnover between Russia and Ukraine amounted to $4.2bn in thefirst half of 2002, Valery Kirinyachenko, deputy head of the Ukrainiantrade and economic mission in Russia, reported at a press conference inMoscow today. He specified that exports from Ukraine to Russia made up$1.4bn and imports from Russia to Ukraine were at $2.8bn.According to Kirinyachenko, Russia is a leading trade and economic partnerof Ukraine. In the total volume of Ukraine's exports, supplies to Russiamade up 17.7 percent, while exports to Turkey were at 8 percent, to Italy -at 5.2 percent, to China - at 4.4 percent and to Germany - at 4.3 percent.The Ukrainian official reported that the foreign trade turnover of Ukrainewent up 2.3 percent in the first six months of this year versus thecorresponding period of 2001 and amounted to $15.778bn.Imports from Russia to Ukraine made up 36.1 percent of the total volume ofimports.
