Arian Erkel, the Dutch head of the Medecins Sans Frontieres mission in Dagestan, which shares a common border with Chechnya, was kidnapped late on Monday night by a group which seized him in the capital Majachkala and made their getaway in a car.
Interior Ministry officials in Dagestan stated that no ransom request has yet been made.
Kidnapping is a centuries-old practice in the Caucasus, one used systematically by the Chechen terrorists. It is known that these terrorists have links with Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network.
