The volume of ruble deposits at Russian banks amounted to 591.933bn rubles ($18.79bn) as of June 1, 2002, including 518.444bn rubles ($16.46bn) of individuals' deposits, which was 10.7bn rubles ($339.68m) more than on May 1 and 72bn rubles ($2.26bn) more than at the beginning of 2002, the public relations department of the Central Bank reported. Russian citizens deposited their ruble resources at banks mainly for the periods from one to three years. The volume of funds at such deposits amounted to 177.655bn rubles ($5.64bn), which was 34.3 percent of the total volume of individuals' deposits. Enterprises and organizations preferred to deposit their rubles resources for the periods from 181 days to one year. These deposits amounted to 15.627bn rubles ($496.1m).
