AvtoVAZ to invest $400m in VAZ-2151 production launch

The production launch of a new "classics" line (a new car arranged similarly to the classical VAZ-2151, which is designed to replace VAZ-2104, 2105, 2107 models that are currently being produced) will cost AvtoVAZ around $400m, according to the Russian automaker's press service. The launch of the industrial production of the car is slated for 2006. According to AvtoVAZ's specialists, the project will pay off in 7 years after the assembly line starts operating. As AvtoVAZ's President and General Director Vitaly Vilchik earlier said, the retail price of the updated "classics" model should not be higher than $4,000. The majority of these cars are expected to be sold on the Russian market. The presentation of VAZ-2151 will be held in line with the Moscow international automobile exhibition MIMS-2002 on August 21-25, 2002.
