Technological divide wider among nations

The technological gap between developed and developing nations is growing wider as time advances, according to a United Nations report released on Tuesday.

The report claims that “the real income per inhabitant in 30 developing countries is lower today than it was 35 years ago”. The report classifies nations according to their technological development and finds that out of a group of 58 developing countries, only 16 improved their relative technological level between 1985 and 1998.

Out of this group, only six nations were considered to have substantially improved their technological level, as compared with the group of developed nations.

While these less developed countries see the divide between themselves and the so-called first world, bringing with it a lessening of competitiveness, they also see social and sanitary conditions deteriorate.
