The banking committee of the Ukrainian parliament has recommended the Supreme Rada ratify the Russian-Ukrainian agreement on providing a state credit to finance the activities on finishing the construction of nuclear power stations in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Financial Server (UFS) agency reported. According to the document, Russia is to give a $44m credit to Ukraine to pay for goods made in Russia and for activities of Russian organizations that are necessary to finish the construction and put into operation the second and the fourth energy generating units of the Khmelnitsk and Rivno nuclear power stations.
Members of the committee pointed out that the agreement envisaged clear mechanisms for using and paying off the credit. The document also stipulates the procedure of settling disputable issues that can appear during the project's implementation.
The committee stressed that the successful implementation of the project would enable Ukraine to generate an additional 6-6.5bn kilowatt/hour of energy at each unit and get additional funds for developing the social sphere of the region including the creation of new jobs.
