The number of fires in the Moscow region continues to decrease, RIA Novosti was told at the regional governor's press-service on Saturday.
According to the source, the 31 blazes remaining in 10 districts of the region to date cover an area of 53.4 hectares. Over the past 24 hours two fires were put out on an area of three hectares, and no new blazes were reported.
Populated localities and potentially dangerous objects situated in the zone of fires are not under threat.
A total of 2,273 people and 692 items of equipment are involved in extinguishing the fires.
Roads and entrances to forest stands continue to be patrolled. There are 451 posts, 56 checkpoints and 156 mobile groups functioning.
During the Friday, police stopped 1,547 people and 1,034 vehicles from entering the forests outside Moscow. As many as 212 people were penalized for violating fire-safety rules.
