Typhoon higos leaves more than 20 settlements without electricity

As a result of the typhoon Higos which swept over the Far East on Wednesday, 22 populated areas were left without electricity, and the communications system was interrupted in another four. Six people suffered from fallen trees in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

RIA Novosti learned on Thursday that strong winds and rains are forecast in the Northern areas of Sakhalin, with a sharp rise of the water level in the rivers of the region. An emergency situation was proclaimed in the Makarovsk, Aniva and Korsakov districts. Car traffic on the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Okha motor-road has been stopped.

Quests of fishing schooner RSH-8241, with nine men on board are conducted in Terpeniya Bay. Two members of the team were picked up by a passing vessel.
