Experts from the national energy grid RAO UES of Russia forecasted that the volume of energy consumption would remain at 652 billion kWh in 2002, which is similar to consumption in 2001. This forecast was voiced by RAO UES head Anatoly Chubais at the energy conference in Kaliningrad.
According to Chubais, the volume of consumption will not increase this year due to the warm winter of 2001-2002 and the introduction of energy-saving policies in Russia. Meanwhile, the consumption of energy is expected to go up 1-1.5 percent in 2003.
