AvtoVAZ suspends main conveyer from October 26 to November 9

Avtovaz, Russia's largest car concern suspends its work on three lines of the main conveyer from October 26 to November 9, halting the production of Niva jeeps and experimental developments. The factory's press service told RIA Novosti that the forced vacation is caused by the need to decrease car manufacturing for excessive supply. According to the press-centre, out of 75-77 thousand cars ready for release, about 25-30 thousand can remain unsold.

The Avtovaz press-centre stresses that during the forced stoppage, the factory will produce more spare parts, continue to manufacture and supply car sets for assembly enterprises abroad, and details for the GM-Avtovaz closed joint-stock venture. In addition, equipment will be repaired in all of the factory's subdivisions.
