Russia's next payment to IMF to be made this week

This week the Finance Ministry of Russia will make its next installment to repay its debt to the International Monetary Fund, IMF, equaling 89,858,250 SDRs (the IMF's payment units).

The payment will be made in three currencies, the ministry's representatives told RIA Novosti. Thus, the IMF will receive 67,953,000 euros, 3,537,000 Japanese yens and $23,428,000. The previous payment was made on October 10th and totaled 16,401,465 pounds sterling.

In compliance with the payment schedule, Russia has to pay $1.5 billion to the IMF in 2002 for earlier received loans. The country's debt equaled $7.5 billion as of January 1, 2002.

In January-early October Russia has paid more than $1 billion to the IMF. So far it has been completely fulfilling its obligations under the previously acquired IMF loans, the fund's representatives point out.
