Young American students who volunteered for community service projects after 11th September started to send donations to Uzbek schools. The very first such donation consisted of items worth 1500 US dollars. This was sent by American High school students from Clinton Central High School in Michigantown, Indiana. The American students are members of the National Honor Society in their school.
The first shipment for Uzbekistan by the American students after the September 11th terrorist attacks consists of backpacks, books, maps, toiletries, clothes, and music cassettes. The above-mentioned American donation was distributed by the spouse of the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Mrs. Nadezhda Herbst to the children of Orphanage # 30 in the Tashkent capital of Uzbekistan. Mrs. Herbst presented a photo album also to the orphanage children from the American students, which includes photos of the project from start to finish. The album also includes a letter to the children of the orphanage signed by the American students.
As per the press release, Heart to Heart International, a humanitarian aid organization, delivered the shipment from the US to Uzbekistan. Local NGO Post -Institutional and Adaptation center (PIASC), ACCELS, and alumni of the US Embassy exchange programs assisted in the transportation and distribution of the items to the orphanage.
