The UN has decided to include five Russian nature reserves in the UNESCO list of international biospherical reserves. In particular, according to the official UN website, the Darwin Peninsular in the Ribinsk Reservoir and the Komandor Islands in the Bering Sea have been added to the list. "After a meeting in Johannesburg to discuss problems of sustainable development people are making some concrete demands. The biospherical reserves could become a kind of laboratory for testing new ideas," said UNESCO expert Jane Robertson.
The UNESCO list includes 425 biospherical reserves in 95 countries.
