Yakutian diamonds to attract tourists

Yakutia will launch the new tourist project in 2012 - The Diamond Week. The tourists visiting Yakutia will have an opportunity to buy gold and silver jewelry at very good discounts. The authors of the project believe that the project is supposed to increase the tourist flow in the republic.

"Yakutia is widely known for its diamonds. The action will thus contribute to creating stable associations among potential tourists," the minister for entrepreneurship and the development of tourism of the republic, Ekaterina Kormilitsyna said. The discounts, the official said, could reach 50 percent.

The minister released the above-mentioned statement at the international conference for the development of event tourism, which took place in Yakutsk. Representatives of the World Tourist Organization, 12 Russian regions, foreign experts from Finland, Germany, Korea, Japan and Britain took pat in the work of the conference. "In 2010, Yakutia welcomed 140,000 Russian and foreign tourists. In 2011, we expect that the number will grow by six percent," Kormilitsyna said.
