Two dead in Indian train blast

Two blasts have been reported in a passenger train in northern India, which killed two people Thursday and injured at least 20 more, a railway official said.

The train was near the town of Jaunpur, in Uttar Pradesh state, about 640 kilometers (400 miles) east of New Delhi, when the explosions occurred, reports the AP.

Divisional Railway Manager R.K. Gupta told Aaj Tak television that 20 to 25 people had been injured and two were killed.

"All of the injured have been taken away to hospital," he said.

The explosion happened at 5.15 pm (IST), reports NDTV.com.

The blasts took place in the general compartment of the train, which was travelling from Patna to Delhi.

However, there are conflicting reports on the number of blasts. The Railways have confirmed only one explosion, notices NDTV.

Emergency services have been rushed to the site of the accident for rescue and relief operations.
