The total power of explosive devices activated under a train near Vladikavkaz on Saturday was equivalent to some 800 grams of TNT, RIA Novosti was told by Viktor Kostarnov, the deputy head of the North Ossetian emergencies minister who visited the site.
In his words, 2 to 4 triton blocks were placed under the rails. The blocks were blown up by remote control when the Moscow-Vladikavkaz train was nearing Vladikavkaz.
The North Ossetian Prosecutor's Office launched criminal proceedings under the article "Terrorism." By emergencies ministry data, 10 cars were derailed and no one was hurt.
There were two explosions under the railway bed, which damaged a 1.5-meter section of the rail.
Traffic on the damaged section will be restored later in the day, forecast emergencies ministry officials.
Another explosive device that did not detonate was found 150 meters from the site. It was attached to a power transmission pylon.
