Courier detained in Chechnya

Law enforcement officers detained in Chechnya an active gang member who was a financial courier of militants, RIA Novosti was told in the Joint press center of the regional operational staff for controlling the counter terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.

"A 40-year-old militant was detained in the settlement of Mairtrup of the Kurchaloi district. It was established that he was a courier and delivered financial means from abroad to gangs controlled by Aslan Maskhadov, a leader of Chechen terrorists," a staff representative said.

In particular, in his words, this February, the courier delivered from former terrorists hiding in Azerbaijain $30,000 that was given to Ahmed Avdorkhanov, the head of Maskhadov's bodyguard.

The detainee is being checked.
