Sergei Tsoi, Moscow mayor's press secretary who arrived at the incident site reported to journalists that collapse of the car-parking roof in the northern part of Moscow was caused by "technical reasons".
According to Tsoi, three women were injured and hospitalized as a result of collapse of the car-parking awning at the entrance to the Metro supermarket.
The press secretary excluded the possibility of people staying under the collapsed awning. The press secretary reported that there were 8 cars staying under the roof.
Tsoi stated: "It's not a Transvaal-park".
The information about collapse of the car-parking roof arrived at the control post of the duty officer of the Moscow civil defense and emergency department at 10.50 Moscow time. The incident took place at the following address: building 165 A, Dmitrovskoye highway. According to estimates, the roof area amounted to about 1000 square meters.
The Metro Cash & Carry retail chain built several large supermarkets in Moscow, in particular in the Varshavskoye highway, at the Ring road in the Yasenevo district, in the Ryabinovaya street, in the Profsoyuznaya street. Among the chain's clients are mostly entrepreneurs engaged in wholesale and retail operations.
It is the second roof that collapsed in Moscow in the last month. On February 14 the roof of the "Transvaal-park" aqua-park in Yasenevo collapsed. 27 people were killed, more than 100 were wounded. 26 people are still staying in Moscow hospitals.
