Hearing of case of cessation of Jehovah's Witnesses activities resumed in Moscow

Hearing of the case of the cessation of Jehovah's Witnesses activities has been resumed in one of Moscow's courts.

The sect is charged with extremism and other crimes. Yesterday the court stopped the hearing and demanded additional evidence for the prosecution.

The suit against Jehovah's Witnesses was initiated in September 1999. The Prosecutor's Office of Moscow's Northern District came to the conclusion that the sect sows religious discord, brings division onto families and inclines seriously ill people to refuse medical aid for religious reasons. However, in 2001 the court took a decision in favor of Jehovah's Witnesses and refused to satisfy the demand of the Prosecutor's Office to liquidate the sect.

The Prosecutor's Office made a cassation protest to Moscow municipal court, which decided to reopen the case.
