Presidential Advisor Sergei Yastrzhembsky told a group of journalists today that federal forces stormed a rebel base in the Chechen village of Serzhen-Yurt and killed 17 rebel soldiers last month. There were no casualties among the Russian federal troops. Yastrzhembsky said that the rebel base was constructed to advanced military designs. It included hidden tunnels and communications. The perimeter of the base sheltered radio-controlled high explosives and mines. Yastrzhembsky added that several of the rebels were dressed in uniforms of Russian federal troops. He said that there were also several foreign mercenaries from Turkey, Algeria and Germany among the dead rebels. Yastrzhembssky showed journalists the documents of the foreign mercenaries and a videotape of the storm of the base by federal forces.
