Terrorist acts perpetrated by suicide bombers are directed by Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Nikolai Patrushev said at a meeting with Russian media chiefs Friday.
Basayev is heading an organisation known as the Islamic brigade, which trains kamikaze terrorists, added the FSB chief.
Basayev spreads manuals for training suicide bombers among Chechen separatists.
"By staging terrorist acts that claim the lives of many civilians they seek to trigger a strong political reaction," said Mr Patrushev.
Fanatic minded women aged from 16 to 30 or women who were abducted from all across Russia and underwent a phsychotropic treatment are often used in suicide attacks, according to Mr Patrushev.
In August 2003, the UN Security Council Committee on Sanctions against Taliban took heed of Russia's proposal and included Basayev into the list of persons subject to a relative Council resolution, said the FSB director. The international community, thereby, acknowledged the Chechen militant groups' links to international terrorist organisations.
Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, ex-president of what was called the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was put on this list in June 2003. He is now living somewhere in an Arab country.
