Members of Arab mercenary Abdullah Salam's gang were detained during a special operation in Chechnya, official spokesman of the regional operative staff in charge of anti-terrorist operations in the North Caucasus Ilya Shabalkin said.
Two active members of the gang, whose names have not been disclosed in the interest of the investigation, were detained on Thursday in the settlement of Borzoi, Shatoi district. According to Shabalkin, the militants were members of the wahhabit jamaat organisation, led by international terrorist, Abdullah Salam.
During their interrogation, the detained bandits said the gang was building and equipping temporary bases near distant mountain settlements, and delivering provisions and clothes to the bases, Shabalkin said.
Currently, the detained bandits' involvement in the terrorist acts perpetrated on the territory of the North Caucasus is being investigated.
