According to more accurate data, 180 injured as a result of the fire at the dormitory of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN, earlier Patrice Lumumba University) are staying in Moscow's hospitals, a woman official of the Russian Interior Ministry's press service said.
According to her, the number of the killed by the fire has reached 36.
The fire at the university's dormitory on the Miklukho-Maklai Street began at 2.17 Moscow time on Monday and was extinguished by 5.40.
The commission for investigating the causes of the unprecedented tragedy (only the fire at Rossia hotel in Moscow in 1977 is comparable with it) is considering three main versions of what happened - a short circuit, careless handling of fire, and arson.
