Four terrorists were eliminated and one arrested in the course of the special operation in Chechnya, representative of the Regional Operative Headquarters on the control of antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus disclosed to RIA Novosti.
"Federal Forces servicemen detected a group of five terrorists 10 km south of Itum-Kale village yesterday," RIA Novosti interlocutor said. The terrorists refused to surrender and opened fire. Four of them were killed in a return fire and the fifth - Khusein Balayev, surrendered.
The servicemen discovered at the scene of the clash five Kalashnikov assault rifles with 20 magazines, 12 grenades and two Stechkin pistols. Moreover, two terrorists had two packs of heroine weighting 300 grams.
"It was established that the terrorists belonged to the illegal armed formation of Doka Umarov and were under the command of the so-called warlord Ruslan Gelayev," RIA Novosti interlocutor said. Arrested Balayev is testifying now about the activities of Gelayev and about the likely places of other terrorists whereabouts.
