Mikhail Khodorkovsky, head of the Yukos oil company who on Friday was on a working visit in the Saratov region (the Volga area) did not exclude his possible detention.
He stated to RIA Novosti: "We are one of the largest oil companies with rather transparent movement of material and technical resources and funds. But somebody wants to demonstrate that even the most honest large-scale business cannot be secure." Khodorkovsky added: "Certainly I will prove that Russian entrepreneurs are capable of defending their rights but it won't be an easy task." Mikhail Khodorkovsky was detained in Novosibirsk's Tolmachevo airport on Saturday at 5.00 a.m. (local time) and brought to the Prosecutor General' office in Moscow for interrogation.
