An act of sabotage caused an incident at the Inghuri hydroelectric power plant this morning, Georgian Fuel and Energy Minister Mamuka Nikoleishvili declared today. According to him, two parts of the 500-kilowatt power transmission line Imereti in Western Georgia, the zone of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict, were damaged by shots from automated rifles. Moreover, the power transmission line Kolkhida-2 was damaged in the similar way. As a result, the Inghuri hydroelectric power plant was automatically shut down. Nikoleishvili admitted that the plant was not generating electric energy currently. The Georgian State Security Ministry has started investigating the incident.
As reported earlier, the incident at the Inghuri hydroelectric power plant occurred at 6:30 Moscow time today. As a result, electric energy supply has been cut off all over Georgia.
