On June 6 about 20-25 Chechen militants attacked servicemen in Argun (30 km. to the east of Grozny). This has been the largest action of this kind committed by the gunmen lately. This is what Prime Minister of the Chechen government Anatoly Popov said at a press conference in Moscow this Saturday.
"Eight of the gunmen have been killed and investigation has been launched with respect for the rest of them," he said.
"The law-enforcement bodies know the name of the head of the militant group" which carried the attack, the head of the Chechen government said. However, he did not disclose the name of the head of the militant group.
According to Popov, as a result of the bandits' attack in Argun, one militiaman and one security guard of head of the Chechen administration Akhmad Kadyrov were killed and another seven people were wounded.
Now the situation in Argun has come to normal, he stressed.
