Chief of Vedeno district department of police killed in Chechnya

The chief of the Vedeno district department of the Interior, Senior Lieutenant Shamil Muguyev, was killed in Chechnya.

As the Ministry of the Interior of Chechnya reported on Monday, at about 23.00 Moscow time on Saturday, May 17, the policemen of the district department of the Interior under Muguyev carried out operations at the village of Dyshne-Vedeno. The policemen got into a militants' ambush on the outskirts of the village and were fired at from automatic weapons.

The chief of the district department of the Interior was mortally wounded in the fight with the terrorists and died on the scene of the incident.

The law-enforcement bodies are now conducting an investigation, the Interior Ministry officials noted.
