As many as 586 forest fires are raging in Russia at the present time, 171 of them have appeared in the past twenty-four hours. As the information department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported on Wednesday, the greatest number of forest fires remain in Eastern Siberia - 183 in the Chita Region, 123 in Buryatia and 109 in the Irkutsk Region.
The Chita Region leads in the number of big fires - 59. However, in the past twenty-four hours their number has decreased.
The total area of the forests swept by fires in the last twenty-fours hours amounts to 27,000 hectares.
Since the beginning of the fire-dangerous season, nearly 400,000 hectares of forests have been enveloped in fire.
