At least 15 people were killed and some 50 wounded in an accident in the Iraqi town of al-Faluja, fifty kilometres west of Baghdad, as US soldiers unleashed fire on a crowd of civilians, the Sky TV British channel reported on Tuesday.
The TV company reports that the accident took place near a mosque before which Muslim believers had gathered. According to some information, someone from the crowd threw a stone at the US patrol. US soldiers opened return fire.
The command of US troops in Iraq has announced that it has so far "received no information about the given accident." Doctors in Al-Faluja have operated on Vladimir Arkhipov, the driver of the Russian embassy, who got injured as the column of Russian diplomatic cars, on the way from Baghdad, came under American fire when US-British air strikes were most fierce.
