On Monday afternoon, a 22-year-old man walked up to the central entrance to the State Duma, or the lower house of the Russian parliament, poured some gasoline over himself and intended to set himself on fire but was promptly detained by State Duma security guards.
The arrestee was then escorted to the police station, where he is now being interrogated. The police are not releasing his name in the interests of the investigation. According to an officer on duty at the interior office, the young man has so far been unable to explain the motive behind his actions.
