The museum house of Baath party founder and creator of the Arabian social renovation theory Michel Aflyak has been ransacked, the Al-Arabiya satellite TV channel reported from Baghdad on Saturday. The robbers stole medals, including foreign, awarded to Aflyak, and took some of his personal belongings. According to the information agency, Aflyak's neighbours, though not all advocates of the Baath party's views, with guns in their hands saved his personal archive and library, having considered it as a national property of Iraq and Syria.
Michel Aflyak from Syria was the founder of the Arabian social renovation theory, which became the Baath party's ideology. The first Baath congress was held in Syria in 1947 and two years later the Baath party ideas found recognition in Iraq.
Aflyak's son - Ahmed, former Iraqi deputy representative to UNESCO, asked for political asylum in France in the beginning of April this year.
