The Central Command of the US Armed Forces says the US troops have approached the center of Baghdad. Captain Frank Thorp, a spokesman for the CentCom headquarters, told Fox News that units of the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Division and the 1st Marine Division were moving towards the center of the Iraqi capital, encountering sporadic resistance at times. According to the captain, the movement of the troops is being secured by US special task forces deployed in the city.
In the meantime, BBC said in a live report from the center of Baghdad that no tanks and no US troops were in view. The situation in the streets of Baghdad is "calm" and no military could be seen.
