According to preliminary information, two Chechen separatists were killed and two more wounded in the course of a special operation in Chechnya's Achkhoi-Martan district.
The purpose of the operation was to liquidate the gang of an Umarov, reported the Regional Operational Headquarters for coordinating the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus. The whole enterprise had been prompted by last night's report about the gang's whereabouts.
The operation involved the OMON, or a police special task force, and soldiers, who surrounded the militant camp and tried to seal it off. In a clash that followed, militants killed Police Major Oleg Klyuchnikov. Having lost two people killed and two more wounded, the gang retreated to the village of Chozhi-Chu.
As of this moment, law enforcers have sealed off the village and are trying to liquidate the rest of Umarov's gang.
