In Chechnya, militants shelled the house of the head of the local administration of the village of Shalazhi. As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told on Friday in the regional operations headquarters for controlling the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, the incident took place the day before in the Urus-Martan district of the republic.
Unidentified persons drove up to the house in two cars and opened fire from automatic weapons. The servicemen of the federal forces who guarded the house open return fire. One bandit was killed and another two wounded, yet the militants managed to escape.
Later, the cars were found on the outskirts of the village. The body of a killed militant was in one of them. He has been identified as a local member of bandit units. It was also established that the cars which were used by the militants had been stolen from local inhabitants. They have been returned to the owners.
The search for the bandits continues. The investigation is going on.
