Three bandits have been killed and one arrested in the course of a special operation on elimination of a group of Chechen separatists led by Ali Dimayev, the former Communications Minister of the so-called Independent Ichkeria. According to the temporary press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry in Khankala, Dimayev's unit was destroyed on Sunday in the village of Kerla-Shawuni in a joint operation of Chechen law-enforcement officers. The clash between the police officers and bandits occurred at the outskirts of the village. The militants opened fire at a mobile police unit. As a result of a short combat, three bandits were killed and one was imprisoned. Dimayev, a notorious separatist commander, was killed. The former Minister participated, in particular, in a terrorist attack on Daghestan in August 1999.
