The State Sanitation and Prevention of Epidemics Committee in the Murmansk region has announced that radiation readings, starting form Wednesday, will be taken every six hours, four times more often than usual. The monitoring will be conducted at 25 points in four settlements: in the villages of Roslyakovo (where the Kursk nuclear submarine will be taken to a dry dock) and Safonovo, and the cities of Murmansk and Severomorsk. Gamma radiation levels will be taken every time, as will soil samples. The results will be analysed at the regional department of the emergencies ministry, while the local population will be kept informed through the media. According to the reports issued by the state committee, radiation levels are currently within the norm. The checks will be continued until the radiation situation on the Kursk has been thoroughly investigated in the dry dock at Roslyakovo.
