Boris Nemtsov, leader of the Union of Right Forces party, said on Tuesday that the bombing of Taliban territory in Afghanistan and arms deliveries to the opposition would not be enough to guarantee the Northern Alliance victory. On the other hand, he believes that an escalation in the military operation could serve to unite the Taliban and the Northern Alliance, although he did not disclose the information on which he based this bold notion. Accordingly, Nemtsov advised the USA to act with caution. Nemtsov said that in his opinion "not one Russian soldier or officer should fight in Afghanistan."
